Repaired

Before
 Dress: Shade
Earrings/Belt: F21
Necklace: Old Navy
Shoes: Target
After
I've been wanting to let the hem down on this skirt for quite a while. Every time I would grab it out of my closet to wear, it would end up going right back in. It just hit my knee and this slightly uncomfortable spot that I felt like I needed to tug it down all the time. I only let it down about an inch, but I love it so much more now that it is repaired! And I cheated a little bit using Steam-A-Seam. So much faster than sewing it!

Menswear

Top: Gap
Blazer: Target
Shorts: Vault Denim
Heels: TJMaxx
Jewelry: Old Navy

As a general rule I try to stay away from clothing that makes me look more like a man. I don't want any of THIS happening, ya know?! But I make an exception for a nice blazer. But I like to feminize it with some cute heels and pretty jewelry.

New Hair-Do

This is my usual "day #2" curly hair. I love that if I curl it for Sunday it will last another few days! But today, instead of leaving it down, I tried a new do! I tried to do this tutorial, but it didn't work too well. My hair is too thin in the front or not long enough over-all or something. So I just made up my own low messy bun thing. I started like the tutorial with the front sectioned out but just didn't twist individual pieces.

This was how it turned out in the end. I only ended up using 2 bobby pins which I far prefer to the 10 I'd need to do the tutorial. I don't think I'll do it all the time, but it was fun to try something new!

Copy Cat

Today is copy cat day. I decided to copy this outfit worn by Katie Holmes.

Source: G via Rheanna on Pinterest

Top/Heels: Target
Jeans: Vault Denim
Scarf: H&M
This is the only scarf I own so that is what I used! But, I think I might like a lighter colored one like Katie's. I'm not sure about all this blue and denim look, but it was worth a try!

Another Maxi

Dress: Down East
Earrings: F21
Necklace: JCPenny
Shoes: Madden Girl

Yes, I know...another maxi dress. What can I say? "Socially acceptable pajamas" (as some people like to call them) are my kind of fashion! :)

Dress up for no reason :)

Maxi Dress: F21
Cardi: Ann Taylor
Earrings: F21

I've never worn skirts or dresses much (other than on Sunday) before I started this blog. But I've come to love wearing them during the week for no special occasion at all. I Especially love long ones! So comfy!

Closet Orphan

This look brought to you by: Target
w/thrifted belt

I've never heard of the term closet orphan but I sure have a lot of them. Items that just never get worn or given away. Today I picked these longs short/capris that I haven't worn this year. I always passed by them because I thought they didn't fit. Maybe I gained a few pounds because when I put them on they fit like a glove! These guys are back into the rotation!

Monochrome

Top: TJMaxx
Skirt: Target-Thifted
Sandals: Ross
Jewelry: F21

I sorta love everyone's monochrome outfits!! I'm going to have to do this more often!

Layering Accessories

Top Old Navy
Shorts NY&CO
Watch Relic
Bracelet F21

I am sick. Blah and runny nose. I didn't even care enough to put shoes on today. And since the challenge is to layer accessories I figured the shoes really were expendable. Now I'm going to bed. The end.

Being Creative

Today's challenge was to be creative. So here you have my son in his slightly too big Old Navy Sunday shirt (with bed hair :)
And here it is on me!

Bubble Burst

Top: Poppy  Shorts: Vault Denim  Sandals: Ross  Belt: Kohl's  Jewelry: F21

I've been trying my very best to buy more unique clothing items. I naturally gravitate toward plain white, black, and gray.  I was all excited about my new orange stripped top (because it was so different and not my normal) until my hubby burst my bubble and told me I looked patriotic. What? It's orange. "It looks red," he said. Well it's orange. So boo. I'm not as original as I thought. I'm just copying some old lady and her flag.

Color Blocking

Top Ann Taylor   Skirt TJMaxx   Necklace F21

Sheesh color blocking was more difficult than I thought it would be. I realized I don't have very many colorful pant options. So I found it easier to use my maxi skirt! I love these colors together though. Maybe a little too much :)

Call me crazy

Top: 2nd hand  Skirt: Thrifted/altered  Shoes: Thrifted White House Black Market
Belt/Necklace: Kohl's  Earrings: Old Navy

Call me crazy but I'm mixing prints today! I never would have paired these 2 items together but as I scoured my closet for 2 prints I struggled to find things that could work together. So, this is what I came up with.

Tuck it!

Top and Earrings from F21
Short from NY&CO altered
Flats from Target
Belt from Goodwill
Necklace gift from Kohl's

I was a little nervous for today's prompt of tucking in. We all know I've had problems in the past with tucking not working out. But I feel a little better about it this time around. Tucking into a skirt is easy peasy but for some reason, into shorts is very awkward for me. I guess I'm just naturally an un-tuck sorta gal. But, it's nice to get out of my comfort zone every now and again :)

Remix it!

Top: Target  Shorts: Vault Denim  Shoes: JCP Earrings: F21

My kiddos wanted to hop in on my photos this morning. What a cute bunch we are :)

Day one of the 21 day challenge is here! I have to pick something to remix 3-4 times over the next 3 weeks. I picked this Chambray shirt from Target. It's comfy, light, and I love it! So I won't mind wearing it once a week!

Bright Blue Silk

Dress: Thritfed/altered  Necklace: Kohl's  Belt: F21  Sandals: Target

The minute I saw this bright blue silk number at Goodwill I snatched it up! It felt like butter in my fingers :) And with it only a few inches too long I knew after a little snip and sew it would be perfect!

Girl's Night Out

Top: Rue 21  Pants/Belt: Thrifted  Shoes: Pay-less  Bracelets: H&M
Last night was Girl's Night Out! We went to see the movie, "The Help". I thought it was really good. We read it for Book Group last year. It's funny and also sad, but overall very enjoyable! Anyone else read the book or seen the movie? Did you like it?

Red

Top: DownEast  Skirt: F21 thifted  Sandals: Target Earrings: Old Navy  Bracelets: H&M

I've always thought I looked awful in red, so I just never bought it and was sorta afraid of it. But, it's just silly to be afraid of clothes! They won't bite :) I wish I had a red necklace to go with this outfit! But I don't own any red jewelry either. I guess I'll be keeping my eye out at Goodwill for that!

Make it work!

Maxi dress: Target  Shirt: F21  Sandals: Ross  Jewelry: Kohl's, F21

You ever watch Project Runway? A new season has started up again! Yay! When I got dressed this morning I heard Tim Gunn in my head saying, "Make it work!". I put this top in the dryer accidentally and it shrunk. I was bummed out but I suppose now it's more like a crop top. Those are in right now, right?! And over my maxi dress, it was just the right length!
I don't have laundry blunders frequently but lately I guess my mind is still on vacation! I also ruined a load recently with a pair of new jean shorts. I just threw them in with some towels and a handful of my kids clothes. Everything white was a yucky shade of blue and one yellow shirt was pea green. Most of it was disposable but I was really sad that my kids 4th of July clothes I'd made them were in the batch. And they got ruined :( Oh well. They wouldn't fit next year anyways! You every have a laundry catastrophe?

Work Appropriate?

 Top Sears
Pants Thrifted
Wedges PayLess
Jewelery Forever 21
Many people have asked me why I do this blog. Some people probably think I'm weird, vain, or bored. Others make fun of my fashion mistakes. But I do this blog for me. I like fashion but I've never taken many risks. Through this blog I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone to try new things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. So what?
My job is not highly acclaimed or lucrative. It's hard, has long hours, and requires me to be more patient, kind, and gentle. And it doesn't require a dress code. The work I do includes scrubbing yogurt off the floor, wiping bums, folding laundry, putting toys away, and kissing boo boos. I could skip a shower, wear pj's, and no make-up all day and be work appropriate. My kids could care less. But when someone rings the doorbell a sense of dread sweeps over me that I look like this. At 2:30 in the afternoon. Or if I need to run to the grocery store for a gallon of milk "really quick", I realize unless I want to strut this hot mess out in public I'll need to shower and get ready and it really won't be that quick after all.
Most days I am probably overdressed for vacuuming and cleaning toilets. I run the risk of getting my nice clothes sweaty, covered in orange fingerprints, and a little snot. But, as I'm scrubbing that mirror, I can smile back at my reflection and know I'm doing my best at being me. I feel confident to answer that door or make a last minute trip to the store. I enjoy my day a little more. And that makes it all worth it.

Leftovers

Blouse- Thrifted  Skirt -Thrifted/Altered  Shoes- Tahari  Belt- Thrifted  Earrings- F21

My mom will be the first to tell you that I've never been a huge fan of leftovers.  However, I think I may have discovered a solution to my problem. Wait until I'm really hungry! I swear things taste really good if I'm really hungry! Of coarse I don't like being really hungry.... So maybe that's not my best solution after all.
