Work Appropriate?

Many people have asked me why I do this blog. Some people probably think I'm weird, vain, or bored. Others make fun of my fashion mistakes. But I do this blog for me. I like fashion but I've never taken many risks. Through this blog I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone to try new things. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. So what?
My job is not highly acclaimed or lucrative. It's hard, has long hours, and requires me to be more patient, kind, and gentle. And it doesn't require a dress code. The work I do includes scrubbing yogurt off the floor, wiping bums, folding laundry, putting toys away, and kissing boo boos. I could skip a shower, wear pj's, and no make-up all day and be work appropriate. My kids could care less. But when someone rings the doorbell a sense of dread sweeps over me that I look like this. At 2:30 in the afternoon. Or if I need to run to the grocery store for a gallon of milk "really quick", I realize unless I want to strut this hot mess out in public I'll need to shower and get ready and it really won't be that quick after all.
Most days I am probably overdressed for vacuuming and cleaning toilets. I run the risk of getting my nice clothes sweaty, covered in orange fingerprints, and a little snot. But, as I'm scrubbing that mirror, I can smile back at my reflection and know I'm doing my best at being me. I feel confident to answer that door or make a last minute trip to the store. I enjoy my day a little more. And that makes it all worth it.

  1. I think everyone should dress up for themselves! I totlaly agree with you...you feel so much better about yourself if you take the time to take care f yourself. I constantly get asked why I'm all dressed up...I just tell people it's because I like to! End of story. Good for you for getting dressed for you!!

  6. I just came across your blog and I LOVE it! I, too, am a stay-at-home mom and have a schedule similar to yours. I love pulling together fun outfits and things that fall out of my regular yoga pants and top comfort zone. Thank for posting, you are so inspirational! :)
